Here goes my 那個那個. Didn't watch many "new" movies this year, perhaps it's just part of my "transformation." Hmm...
Since I'm a proud LOTR fan, I'll present my list in a trilogy fashion as below.
I. New
- "Finding Nemo": One of my favorite of the year. Disney owes too much to Pixar.
- "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers": Saw it again just to satisfy my fanatic need. I'm addicted, as you might have noticed.
- "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King": Amazing. Another favorite. Too much's already been said so I'll shut up on this one. But hear this, Samwise Gamgee is the man!
- "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle": For the beautiful girls and pretty clothes.
- "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde": Hmm. Noticed that I've been leaning toward comedies with funny girls? Am I turning into a man or something?!
- "Intolerable Cruelty": Maybe not the Coen brothers' best, it's funny (and cruel) all the same. Also, it shows you what Ms. Jones and Mr. Clooney can do.
- "Bulletproof Monk": Someone "made" me see it. Paul Hunter should go back to directing music videos. What the hell. Please don't do this again to our Mr. Chow. Didn't see a lot of films the past year (which I'd like to change this year), so this is easily one of the worst!

II. Old
- "Les Quatre cents coups": A Truffaut classic. My first viewing. Spins my head around.
- "Annie Hall": Incredible film that left me desperate, despaired, and hopeful again. Watched it three times on the same weekend.
- "Y tu mamá también": I admire the honesty. Alfonso Cuarón is one of the most exciting filmmakers, and I want to see what he does to the Harry Potter movie.
- "Bridget Jones's Diary": Colin Colin Colin!
- "Wit": 3 times in 2003. Emma Thompson is great. I'm proud to say that I've loved her since I was 14.
- "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone": The kids are adorable. I miss Richard Harris. Maggie Smith's unbelievably elegant.
- "Great Expectations": Another gem from Alfonso Cuarón. Anne Bancroft broke my heart.
- "Two Weeks Notice": Mom dragged me to the theater, but I enjoyed it. There truly was chemistry.
- "Taxi" & "Taxi 2": I don't know why we kept watching these, and why my mom kept calling Samy Naceri "Adam Sandler"...
- "Panic Room": That Fincher!!! Jodie Foster proved her greatness again. (Wait, she doesn't need to prove it at all.)
- "Death to Smoochy": I love dark comedies. Edward Norton is fabulous and Catherine Keener is so at ease in this type of films that it's scary yet fascinating. The music is fabulous too.
- "When Harry Met Sally...": Was reminded how much I liked Billy Crystal.
- "My Big Fat Greek Wedding": The TV show's awful.
- "The Gift": Quite scary so I gave up watching it to the end.
- "Almost Famous": It was on cable so I thought I might as well watch it again. It's MY film after all.
- "Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain": Second time for me. I'm in love with Mathieu Kassovitz and Mr. Jeunet's vision.
- "Gossip": Lena Headey is stunning.
- "61*": It's pretty good actually.
- "Emma": The Gwyneth version. Ewan McGregor was cute. Jeremy Northam's great.
- "High Fidelity": Please stop me from seeing it again. I'm hopeless.
- "An Ideal Husband": Amazing cast, superb performance. Cate Blanchett has the best dress in the film.
- "The Sweetest Thing": Hilarious at times, redundant during the rest. Christina Applegate is great in this one.
- "Everyone Says I Love You": Don't remember how many times I've seen this. It just put me in a festive - with an edge - mood. Woody doing a musical! Edward Norton and Drew Barrymore, hand in hand, strolling in Central Park! Goldie Hawn dancing and flying, along the river of Seine!
III. Why Didn't I Get to See These, For Crying Out Loud?
The Pianist
Jules et Jim
Kill Bill Vol. 1 (Actually I know why...I'm a coward.)
8 Femmes
Spider
The Hours (I honestly don't know why I didn't see it. Maybe it's the overwhelming hype that makes me think I've seen it.)
Far From Heaven
Many intriguing titles that appeared in Golden Horse Film Festival this year (that I didn't get to see...)
Okay, this looks like...a truly pale year of cinema for me.
PS.
(1) Really look forward to "Un long dimanche de fiançailles." Jodie Foster in a Jean-Pierre Jeunet film!
(2) Still don't think I listed all of what I saw in '03, 'cause for a while I was going through a "serious DVD phase" where I'd stop by the DVD store at least three times a week to get films. But my senility strikes again and I lose track of all those titles. Maybe they disappear because they didn't make as strong an impact?!
So, my lesson learned: I will keep record of what I see this year on a notebook. A real one, like Paul Auster seems to do. I'm serious, I'm gonna do this, no matter what this means to me. We don't make much sense anyway.

哈 你知道嗎? 星期六晚上我們才又看了"Annie Hall"....
看了你的list 發現我的list 忘了寫下"Far From Heaven" 有一點小失望, 因為拿來跟"The Hours"比, 與 "8 Femmes"-不錯看喔, "The Pianist"--小失望.
