This entry was titled so for two musical reasons. One is the Beach Boys song, "God Only Knows," that's been lingering in my head these days. It often gets aggressively loud on my way to work and makes me feel hopeful and ready to be punched in the face by the ignorance and casual cruelty of Mr. B (my boss, ladies, not Big). Secondly, there's an Oasis song that I've always loved (in fact, it might be my favorite Oasis tune) - "Stand By Me." The chorus in the end goes, "Nobody knows, yeah, God only knows...the way it's gonna be," and my small, fragile, emotional, collegial soul was hugged. I loved them for about two years, simply for that song. I still like their songs but some of them seem inevitably the same, which kills the fun sometimes. And I live for fun, when it comes to music.
Here comes the "setlist" for today(which is a latest listening list actually, but y'all know I'd like to pretend I'm a rock star):
The Shins - "Oh, Inverted World"
Starsailor - "Silence Is Easy"
Sondre Lerche - "Faces Down" (Yes, I'm getting TWM soon)
Norah Jones - "Feels Like Home" (I love the Tom Waits-Kathleen Brennan song)
Rufus Wainwright - oldies(?)
Beach Boys - "Don't Worry Baby" & "God Only Knows"
Coldplay - "Lips Like Sugar" and "Spies" (it's banned in China)
Beatles - "Let It Be...Naked"
The Decemberists - "Her Majesty, The Decemberists"
Ella Fitzgerald - "Imagination"
Simon and Garfunkel - "Tales from New York" (a best of)
Elliot Smith - "LA"
Yo La Tengo - "Autumn Sweater" (yup, I do realize it's spring already) and "Griselda" (so catchy, that song!)
(How I wish I could introduce my band members to you here.)
Watched half of the Coldplay 2003 tour DVD the other day and I decided that Guy Berryman and Jonny Buckland are cute too.
Ah, God only knows.
